2001 Volkswagen New Beetle Problems??
I am consitering buying a 2001 Volkswagen new beetle GLS. However, I have heard that year has been known for having electrical and other problems. Does anyone know anything about this, or anything I should watchout for?? The car is the dark blue, auto, moonroof, power everything, good price, but a lot of miles.

If its diesel dont worry about about high mileage, but check the service history thoroughly!-Cambelts should be done at least every 60,000 miles & services (Oil/filter changes) every 10,000 at least. If petrol, then check its had new spark plugs & HT leads inline with the servicing requirements!
VW do make very good cars, but why a new beetle when the have other more desirable models for a smaller price!?
Also their diesels are far better than their petrols, cheaper to run to!
The electrics can be abit dodgy on the earlier new beetles (same with early audi TT’s) but if its been looked after & serviced well, then you should be ok.
Check to see if there where any recalls for the model you are interested in, & that if there were it was sorted!
there were some concerns but the same is for any car. the 2001 bug needs a timing belt checked at 40k and 80k and replaced no later then 105k miles. but I would not go that long. the bug is a great car. You need to have fully synthetic oil changes every 5k miles. Call Customer care to see if there are any open recalls on the car first. the only known problem was the window regulators and the mass air flow sensors and the brake light switch and those were all taken care of by VW if the car was taken care of.
