2003 volkswagen passat towing capacity?

I want to know what I can tow with my passat. please cite your sources

    The hitches you buy are rated for 3,900 but volkswagen says to never go over 3,300. Towing with a front wheel drive in the first place is not a good idea, puts alot of stress on both engine and drive chain
