For those that have driven them: Volkswagen Golf GTI or Suburu WRX Premium?
I configured them both online, they’re both the same price, but the Golf is like $400 less, insignificant when I’m already spending $30,000.
I only care about how they are to drive. If all you can think about is straight-line speed, don’t even bother answering. I know the Suburu has more power, but is it more controlled through the corners? I know that to drive, the GTI is pretty perfect for it’s price.
Also, if you think I should go for the Golf, should I get the DSG gearbox?

I have a WRX and once u drive it ull never regret buying it. i still get looks left n right and all i put on it was some 19″ black rims thats it but 3 yrs lata and still looks brand new one thign good about suburu is they never make new models every year they all looks the roughly same so it wont get old looking at. handling/power is at its best very easy handling its amazing. i recommend the WRX for sure
Subaru is more practical, faster, more powerful, and handles better with AWD and with AWD it could be driven in snow.
But the GTI is what started it all. Because of it, there is such a car as the WRX and Evo and SE-R and Type R and Si. And it is better on fuel and as you said, cheaper. Also much better looking.
Both are reliable and practical cars with many features.
I would choose the GTI and modify it to be as fast and handle as well as the WRX.
On paper, the Subaru dominates the Golf. However, I have found that driving tells a different story. The Golf somehow has more personality and is generally more fun day-to-day. The Subaru is quicker, but a sterile shadow of its former self. The GTi is a genuinely enjoyable little car and the DSG gearbox is brilliant. Power is much smoother in the VW even though it is slower. Quality in both cars is great, but Volkswagen still have the edge. Just. I bought the GTi with no regrets, but drive them both back-to-back for yourself – it’s the only way to know which one you like best. After all, cars are a very personal thing.
You dont see getaway drivers or ram raiders using Volkswagen GTI’s do you? and think about it these guys want the best of everything, straight line, cornering braking etc. I cant believe you are even comparing the two cars ‘Top Gear’ has alot to answer for. Drive both cars and you will see a WRX destroys a GTI in any performance test you car to mention. Also a WRX is four wheel drive making it alot safer in the wet than a front wheel drive configuration with a cheap lsd.
