How much is a RALLY car modified?

i want to know what do the rally teams modify on a car before taking it to a race. You will probably say just about anything. Well, if they really do change everything, why the hell do they choose a certain car in the first place?

Take sebastien loeb’s Citroen C4 for example. If they changed everything on it before racing, why did they choose Citroen C4 and didn’t choose a Volkswagen Golf (or somerhing else)??? What are the criteria for finding a car suitable for modifing for a race?

Or a Subaru impreza for rally. The car is very good from stock, but it doesn’t really matter, does it?! because they will anyway change the engine, suspension, chasis, transmission, tyres, steering, etc…

racers are backed by certain car makers whoever wants to pay they will roll with that maker and also it comes down to that drivers personal tastes and yes mechanically rally cars are 99% different than their street counter parts

The cars are completely gutted and replaced with rally spec kit, I know of a company in the UK that fits the insides for both form and citroen so they have very similar kit inside.

It all comes down to sponsorship and they end of the day car companies want to sell cars that people think win rallies, even though it makes no difference.

Well yes, surprisingl it does….. Well not really. some cars are racing because they’re companies have a huge stock in the buisness and just took a car from there line to race. and thou it is true rally cars are either completly modified or close to it, alof of the modifications are beefing up th existing systems instead of replacing them. To the best of my knowledge the engines are kept stock with the exception being turbocharging and the body shape is kept stock too with no wheel well expansions or anything of the sort. the transmision and suspension is modified, but the spring mounts are left in the stock position. Also realise that cars like the lancer and the impreza arevery much so rally inspired, so its alot easier and less costly to make them rally spec. But outside of the wrc, most and car can undergo a rally converstion, so the only real thing to keep in mind if you were to choose one is how much you want to spen getting it ready to hit the dirt!!!

    hope I helped!!
