Quite urgent engine problem VW GOLF 1999 MK4 1.4s Cooling Radiator Block ?

1999 Volkswagen Golf 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 78000 miles

I have had a small scrape/rattle in the engine for about a month
yesterday i was on the moterway engine cooling light came on on the moterway i decided not to stop
at garage discovered all collant gone from it container
filled it up drove on
slowly as i carried on fierce scraping started
i stopped now it wont go away and all coolant drains straight through to the floor
i am aware of my stupidity
i was wondering do u think it is a new engine job or repair

    Needs a new water pump the bushing/bearing has gone bad allowing water to leak out and a scraping noise soon follows
